|Nicole Ari Parker & Forest Whitaker in Repentance (2014)|
I'm betting on this one. Whitaker has been an activist and humanitarian for many years. In what I'm sure is a very busy life, he takes the time to advocate for significant Black characters in genre film, literally in the face of the most overt, soft-blow-"well-meaning" type of systemic racial exclusion.
As we leave Black History Month in 2014, this film is hopefully is a step in the direction I initially alluded to where meaningful Black horror films see steady resurgence.
